Our 4 Days Rwanda Gorilla Tracking and Lake Kivu tour is the best short-term gorilla safari in Rwanda that gives you a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to meet the rare Mountain gorillas in their habitat at Volcanoes National Park and then have time to relax at Lake Kivu.

You will visit the Kigali Genocide Museum en route to the Park or after your Gorilla Trek on the last day.

Detailed Itinerary

Day 1

Arrival at Kigali International Airport and Transfer to Volcanoes National Park for overnight.

The Rwanda gorilla tracking safari will start with pick up by your safari guide from either a guest house/Lodge in Kigali if you arrive a day before or from Kigali International Airport if you arrive in the very early morning hours, then drive to Volcanoes National Park in North Western Rwanda where you will spend two nights.

This journey is about a 2-3 hour’ drive but very rewarding as you will be driving through various local communities and towns along the road, winding through the beautiful cascading and rolling hills of commonly tagged Switzerland of Africa.

You will also have an opportunity for an en-route stopover for photography and sightseeing experience.

Accommodation: Le Bambou Gorilla Lodge.

Accommodation Type: Low Mid-range/High Budget but open to upgrade

Meal Plan: Full Board.

Drive time: 2-3 hours’ drive.

Day 2

Gorilla tracking experience day.

After early morning breakfast, you will drive to the Park headquarters for registration and join others for a gorilla trekking briefing about the dos and don’ts during your Rwanda Gorilla Trekking Tour.

Once this is done, you will trek through the montane forests of Volcanoes National Park with your ranger guides to find the Gorillas, which can take you from half an hour to three-quarters of the day.

As you forest trek to find the mountain gorillas, you will have a chance to encounter other wildlife including, various bird species and tree species which your guide which give you information about to make the trek enjoyable.

This is indeed an extraordinary feeling to be with these beautiful endangered Creatures.

Day 3

Drive to Lake Kivu for a Relaxing and Boat ride.

After your breakfast you will drive to Lake Kivu for relaxing and overnight, you will do a boat cruise on the lake and other optional activities around the lake.

Accommodation Type: Mid-range

Meal Plan: Full Board

Day 4

Drive back to Kigali to end the tour via the Genocide Museum/City Tour in Kigali.

After your breakfast, you will be driven to Kigali for your post-tour accommodation or you may choose to fly out of Rwanda today.

You will use the same tour route as when you came through.

Drive time: 2 – 3 hours’ drive
